New Toyota Camry Debuts In Thailand, Headed For Malaysia

After making its premiere in Singapore earlier this year, the brand-new ninth-generation Toyota Camry has now debuted in Thailand. The Smart, Premium, and Premium Luxury are the three models that are offered in the Kingdom with a starting price of THB 1.475 million, or around RM190,000. And we can expect this model to land in Malaysian showrooms within the next year.

The 2.5-litre Dynamic Force Hybrid THS II engine from Toyota powers all three versions. It combines an electric motor with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels and produces 188 horsepower and 221 Nm, for a total system output of 227 hp.

The new Camry gets a radical new look thanks to its larger grille, sharper angles and accented air ducts. Its LED taillights and daytime running lights, which both have a C-shaped design, accentuate its new more aggressive appearance.

Additionally, the Camry is now 35 mm longer than its predecessor, a modest increase in length that strangely appears to improve its overall proportions. This expansion results in a more spacious cabin and a 500-litre boot.

In Thailand, the brand-new ninth-generation Camry offers a plethora of amenities. Automatic C-shaped LED projector headlights seem to take styling cues from the front end of the new Crown and Prius, and an adventurously contoured bonnet gives the new model some real attitude. Regarding creature comfort, you get a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic roof with power-adjustable sunshades for added comfort, a front acoustic windscreen to cut down on noise, and, depending on the model, either a six-speaker audio setup or a high-end 9-speaker JBL sound system.

The Singapore model’s extensive array of driver assistance systems is mirrored in the Thai-spec Camry. This includes rear cross-traffic detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and lane tracing assist.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

Taking a hefty whiff of design scent from the new Crown and Prius, the all-new Camry will enter the market with a fresh, new look, a gutsy hybrid powertrain, and a new hi-tech interior. Oh, and its price is expected to be extremely competitive too.
