New Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 Debuts In Malaysia

Celebrating 50 years of the legendary Golf, a new Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 is now available for purchase from Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia for RM267,990. Interestingly, this Golf variant is a Malaysia-exclusive model that honours the Golf’s 50th anniversary and is locally assembled (CKD). The standard Mk 8.5 Volkswagen Golf is the basis of the 50th anniversary model for the European market.

The GTI employs bespoke accessories including an Oetingger bodykit made up of a black-finished front splitter, roof spoiler and diffuser. It also incorporates black-painted side mirror caps and a special ‘Edition 50’ VW tint.

The car is fitted with 18-inch gloss black “Pretoria” lightweight wheels, VW Design aluminium valve caps, and “GTI” Dynamic centre caps. This special edition gets unique exterior accents, including as “50” exterior emblems on the B-pillars and a side decal modelled after the front grille’s honeycomb design.

Inside, the GTI employs bespoke “Edition 50” carpet mats, side scuff plates, and a “50” badge in the central spoke of the steering wheel. Other cabin features include the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a 10-speaker, and a 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 is powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that generates 245hp and 370 Nm of torque. Power is channelled to the front wheels and the 2.0-litre is mated with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

The vehicle is equipped with the IQ.DRIVE safety suite, which comes with features like lane departure warning (LDW), lane-keep assist (LKAS), blind-spot monitor (BSM), autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), and forward collision warning (FCW).

There are two unique colours available for the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50 which include Oryx White and Moonstone Grey. This model, which costs RM267,990, comes with the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which covers maintenance for five years, an unlimited mileage warranty for five years, and roadside assistance for five years.

Celebrating the Golf’s 50th anniversary, the Golf GTI Edition 50 comes with some bespoke features that elevate it above all other GTIs, and that fact makes it a collector’s item. And the Malaysian-spec is even more special with unique red accents among other highlights.
