New Volvo ES90 Slated To Land In Malaysian Showrooms By Early 2026

The fully electric Volvo ES90 will make its debut in Malaysia in early 2026. Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, disclosed this at a press conference this week, stating that the EV will reach Southeast Asia in the “early part of next year.”

The ES90, which was unveiled to the world in March 2025, will replace the EX90, which has only just been introduced in Malaysia as the flagship sedan model in its EV lineup.

The Volvo ES90, which shares the same SPA2 design as the EX90, is shorter than its SUV sibling but has a longer wheelbase (3,102 mm). With a drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd, the ES90 is the company’s most aerodynamic model to date thanks to its sloping roofline.

In what Wailes calls “not a normal sedan,” the ES90 is unique in that it has an increased ride height of 203 mm, making it appear significantly taller.

During its worldwide debut, three powertrain options were revealed—two twin-motor configurations and one single motor. With a 92 kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted electric motor that generates 245 horsepower, the Single Motor model boasts a range of 644 km.

Meanwhile, the Twin Motor version gains a front-mounted electric motor that increases power to 442 horsepower allowing it to offer a 700 km range from its larger 106 kWh battery pack.

As the name implies, the top Twin Motor Performance has a dual-motor powerplant that produces 670 horsepower that permits this EV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The ES90 can reclaim 300 km of range in just 10 minutes thanks to its 800V architecture, which is Volvo’s first and offers DC rapid charging at up to 350 kW. So charging the vehicle from 10 to 80% takes just 20 minutes.

The ES90’s interior kit features a 14.5-inch centre portrait infotainment display that runs Google’s next-generation Volvo Car UX while the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm powers its innovative infotainment system.

Due to the car’s dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin arrangement, which can execute more than 500 trillion operations per second (TOPS), the Volvo ES90 is the company’s most powerful model so far in terms of computational power in addition to infotainment.

These chips then power the ES90’s advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), which, like the Volvo EX90, are centred around a LiDAR sensor on the roof, five radar sensors, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

This sounds like Volvo’s most advanced model to date. Wailes alluded to several further model releases in the upcoming “months and years” in addition to the ES90. For the foreseeable future, he reaffirmed his predecessor’s pledge to introduce one EV annually; however they would continue to provide new plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid models as well.
