New XPeng G6 EV Debuts In Malaysia From RM165K

The fully electric XPeng G6 has finally debuted in Malaysia. Sold locally by Bermaz XPeng, it comes in two versions—the G6 580 Pro and the G6 755 Pro. The car’s prices range from RM165,820 to RM185,820 for the flagship model. The fully electric vehicle resembles the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Tesla Model Y in size, and keeps up with its Korean and US rivals in terms of looks too.

The Smart Electric Platform Architecture 2.0 (SEPA 2.0) platform serves as the foundation for the XPeng G6. The G6 580 Pro and 755 Pro sit on a 2,890 mm wheelbase and have dimensions of 4,753 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height.

Standard exterior features on the Malaysian-spec XPeng G6 include auto-sensing LED headlights, manual headlights height adjustment, electric side mirrors with heating function, electric-release door handles, panoramic roof, electric tailgates, 20-inch alloy wheels shod with 225/45R20 tyres, keyless door entry, remote start (via app only).

The Xpeng G6 is only available in Malaysia in rear-wheel drive, although boasting different power outputs. The 755 Pro has 282 horsepower and 440 Nm, and can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds where as the entry-level 580 Pro spec takes 6.6 seconds and has 255 horsepower and 440 Nm. Both versions have a maximum speed restriction of 202 km/h.

The 755 Pro model has a range of 570 km (WLTP) — although expect only around 480km in the real world—due to its larger 87.5 kWh NCM battery pack. The 580 Pro model, on the other hand, has a 435 km (WLTP) range thanks to a 66 kWh LFP battery pack.

An 11 kW on-board AC charger is included with both models. With the 580 Pro and 755 Pro models compatible with 215 kW and 280 kW respectively, the G6 also offers fast DC charging. This makes it possible for both versions to fully charge their batteries—from 10% to 80%—in about 20 minutes. On both versions, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability is standard and can supply up to 3.3 kW of power for your electrical equipment.

Inside, both models have a contemporary, technologically advanced layout with a large 14.96-inch centre touchscreen driven by a Snapdragon 8155 processor. A conventional 10.2-inch instrument cluster behind the steering wheel provides the driver with additional benefits in addition to the touchscreen functionality. The infotainment system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity for extra convenience.

In terms of safety, the G6 comes standard with, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centering Control (LCC), Adaptive Turning Cruise (ATC), Active Lane Change (ALC), Automatic Speed Limiter (ASL), Forward Distance Monitoring (FDM), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assistance (LKA), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), and a 360-degree camera with transparent chassis mode.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The G6 brings a lot to the electric SUV party — not least stylish looks, decent range, loads of interior tech and a competitive price. We look forward to seeing how it drives. Hyundai and Tesla should be on notice as there’s a new kid on the block and it looks tough.
