New XPeng G6 Teased Ahead Of Launch In Malaysia

Don’t you just love carmakers and their teaser images? This time, Bermaz Xpeng Sdn. Bhd has uploaded a teaser photograph of its upcoming XPeng G6 SUV onto its social media pages while opening an ROI—Registration of Interest—on the car.

Drivers who see themselves behind the wheel of this Chinese SUV can register their interest by submitting information including name, and phone number and email.

Like the Hyundai Santa Fe, the XPeng G6 is a comparably large electric coupe-styled SUV. The Xpeng G6 was introduced in Thailand in March 2024 and is available in both Standard Range and Long Range. The starting point for the Standard Range is 1.5 million baht, or roughly RM200,000, whilst the Long Range begins at 1.7 million baht, or roughly RM230,000.

In contrast, the standard model of the Tesla Model Y cost 1,749,000 baht (about RM229,700) when it was first released in Thailand, while the Long Range AWD model cost 2,049,000 baht (about RM269,200). The RWD Model Y costs RM191,000, the Long Range AWD costs RM238,000, and the Model Y Performance costs RM280,000 in Malaysia.

The G6 is available in China in a number of configurations featuring single- and dual-motor setups, with outputs of up 487 hp and 660 Nm, and an electric driving range of 580-755 km (CLTC). Given the often over-estimated ranges of “CLTC,” we suggest that perhaps that claimed 580 km figure would probably fall to around 450 km in the real world.

Bermaz Auto, through its recently established Bermaz Xpeng Sdn. Bhd., is the authorised distributor of XPeng Malaysia. In addition to serving as the distributor for Malaysia, Bermaz Auto will handle the after-sale support and replacement component sales for the XPeng brand there. With the recent transfer of Peugeot back to Stellantis under Stellantis Malaysia, the Bermaz group of companies is currently the brand group of company custodians for Mazda and Kia in Malaysia.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

Yes, posting teaser images of a car that has already been revealed does seem like a bit of overkill, given that all we need to do is go online and Google “Xpeng G6.” But, at the same time, we do understand the hype created around a new car launch by posting teaser images. Good luck fellas, because with its pinstripe narrow headlight bar and sleek exterior, the G6 is actually quite a good-looking machine. In fact, with those aesthetics and range hovering around 450 km in the real world, the G6 could challenge more accepted SUVs from the likes of Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Kia and Hyundai.
