As the huge-selling Perodua Myvi enters its third generation, it arrives with a major change. The latest version boasts a uniquely Malaysian bespoke design. Produced by Malaysian manufacturer Perodua, this B-segment subcompact was born in 2005 based on the Daihatsu Boon (also branded as Daihatsu Sirion, Toyota Passo and Subaru Justy) and is a result of the brand’s collaboration with both Toyota and Daihatsu. However, the third generation Myvi came along in 2017 and was entirely designed and made in Malaysia, and as such, has no relationship to the third generation Boon. An update debuted in 2020.

The initial collaboration with the two Japanese carmakers employing their top-notch build quality and refinement, enabled the Myvi to become the best-selling car in Malaysia from 2006 to 2014. Then, Perodua found its niche and created a uniquely Malaysian vehicle that once again topped the country’s best-selling list from 2018-2021. So far, the Myvi has sold nearly 1.4 million units since it was first launched in 2005.

Myvi In Blue

This latest Myvi is entirely designed in-house by Perodua’s own design division led by Muhamad Zamuren Musa, who also designed the Bezza. Standard equipment across the lineup include LED reflector headlights, manual headlight leveling, LED taillights, electronic adjustable side mirrors, reverse sensors, fully-sized spare tire, keyless entry and start, power windows with auto driver’s window, digital air conditioning controls, tilt adjustable steering wheel, height adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split folding rear seats, and integrated shopping hook and anti-snatch hook.

Myvi Interior

With pricing starting from RM46,500, the Myvi comes with two engine choices, a 1.3-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine. For the record, the 1.3-litre produces 94 hp and 118 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre generates 102 hp and 136 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to a CVT automatic transmission and deliver sufficient power for daily commuting. Its best in class fuel economy gets you 21.1km/L.

The Myvi also comes standard with a range of safety features, including ABS, EBD, BA, and dual airbags. Higher-spec variants also get features, such as pre-collision warning and braking, a pedal mis-operation control, VSC, TRC, and hill start assist.

Our Thoughts

The Perodua Myvi is a great choice for anyone looking for an affordable, fuel-efficient, and spacious car. It is also one of the safest cars on the market, and it comes with a wide range of features to choose from. If you are looking for a reliable and practical car, the Perodua Myvi, priced from RM46,500 is a worthy option.
