Last week, the Porsche Macan reached a rare milestone—the production of its one millionth unit produced at the Leipzig factory. When it debuted 12 years ago, it became the fastest-selling Porsche model in history.
In contrast, the Macan’s larger brother, the Cayenne, reached that figure in after 18 years in 2020. In contrast, the 911 accomplished the same feat in 2017—over a much longer 53-year span.
Porsche sold 82,795 Macan units last year, which greatly contributed to that achievement. Additionally, 45,137 units were delivered to new owners in the first half of 2025 alone, with 57% of those being the electric model.
The Macan remains the best-selling Porsche model even though the brand phased out the internal combustion engine (ICE) version in favour of the fully electric model that debuted last year.
The Macan is “inseparably linked to Leipzig,” according to Porsche. The SUV’s success, which was first made in the Leipzig facility in 2011, has resulted in the factory’s considerable expansion and the creation of 1,500 additional jobs.
“With the Macan, Porsche has evolved over the past 12 years into one of the most significant employers and economic drivers in the central Germany region,” stated Gerd Rupp, chairman of Porsche’s Management Board.
In the form of a Macan 4 in Frozen Blue Metallic, the one millionth Macan was delivered to a fortunate customer from Kiel, Germany. Notable features include a head-up display with augmented reality technology, adaptive sports seats, and a two-tone leather inside in black and chalk.
Two electric motors—one on each axle—power the Macan 4, generating a total of 408 horsepower and 650 Nm. It has a top speed of 220 km/h and can jump from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. A 100 kWhbattery powers the SUV, delivering up to 612 km of WLTP-rated range.
CARLIST THOUGHTS
To be honest, even though the Macan is selling well and has been a big success for Porsche, its oversized body dimensions have alienated many potential buyers who were used to previous Macans. There are four different models of the all-electric Porsche Macan available in Malaysia: the Macan, Macan 4, Macan 4S, and Macan Turbo. The base model costs RM430,000, while the top Turbo costs RM635,000.
