Porsche’s Electric Revolution Continues With New Macan Models

German sports car maker Porsche has unveiled its first all-electric Macan SUV models – the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. The new electric vehicles promise sports car-like performance combined with everyday practicality and long-range capability.

The Macan 4 produces 300 kW (408 PS) of power with launch control, hitting 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The top-of-the-line Macan Turbo packs a mighty 470 kW (639 PS), rocketing from 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.

Both models draw power from lithium ion battery with a capacity of around 95 kWh using 800-Volt architecture. This enables a maximum WLTP range between 516-613 km on the Macan 4 and 518-591 km for the Turbo. Using 270 kW fast charging, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in about 21 minutes.

On the design front, the new Macan models feature sharper, more aggressive styling in line with Porsche’s DNA. Aerodynamics have also been optimized with adaptive elements like rear spoilers and cooling flaps to boost range.

The interior gets the latest touchscreens and digital interfaces, with new augmented reality tech on the head-up display. Porsche has also packed its latest chassis systems into the electric Macan, including options like rear-axle steering, air suspension, and torque vectoring for dynamic handling.

Porsche states that the new electric Macan combines quintessential Porsche performance and driving dynamics with everyday usability and environmental friendliness. Production is carbon-neutral at their Leipzig plant in Germany, with first deliveries to customers expected in the second half of 2024. Pricing starts at $80,450.

Our Thoughts

With its first electric SUV, Porsche takes direct aim at the Tesla Model Y. However, the Macan plays in a completely different league when it comes to pricing and luxury appointments.
