Proton Sold Nearly 40,000 Cars In Q1, Exports Jumped By 63%

In March of this year, Proton sold a total of 12,666 vehicles in both its home and foreign markets. This adds to the brand’s 39,150 unit total sales for the first quarter of 2024. In comparison to the same period previous year, that all translates to a 63% jump in export sales.

Proton has sold 2.8% (1137 units) fewer automobiles in the first quarter of the current year than it did in the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, Proton experienced a 3% rise in the first two months, but the current figure more closely matches the MAA estimate.

Some 5,906 of the 12,666 Proton units sold in March were Saga models. As a result, the Saga sold 19,247 units in the first quarter of this year, which is its highest Q1 sales total in twelve years.

In Proton’s second spot is the S70, which sold 2,072 units in March, including 35 units from the export market. Thus far, 5,828 units of the brand’s “C-segment” sedan have found homes throughout Q1 2024.

The Persona, Proton’s other sedan, saw sales of 1,665 units in March and 5,370 units in the first quarter of 2024. Some 1,626 X50s were sold in March, for a grand total of 5,444 units sold in the first quarter.

The X70 meanwhile sold 603 units in March (1,420 units in Q1), while 326 units of the X90 were sold in March (1,065 units in Q1). Last but not least is the brand’s B-segment hatchback, the Proton Iriz which recorded 468 units finding homes in March (1,534 units in Q1).

For the record—since Marc—the Exora has been out of production and marketed no longer. Still, in the first two months of this year, it was able to sell 242 units.

Carlist Thoughts

Proton’s product lineup showed resilience in a challenging market with more EVs going on sale than ever before. As expected the Saga and S70 sold well while the Persona and X50 also showed strong sales figures.
