Supernal Unveils New eVTOL Concept at CES 2024

Supernal, the advanced air mobility company under Hyundai Motor Group, has unveiled its latest electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle concept, the S-A2. The new vehicle concept was showcased at CES 2024 in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The S-A2 concept is an eight-rotor aircraft designed to carry one pilot and four passengers on trips between 25-40 miles at speeds up to 120 mph and 1,500 feet altitude. Key features include a V-tail design, distributed electric powertrain with tilting rotors for efficient vertical liftoff and horizontal flight, robust airframe and redundancies in critical systems.

Supernal aims to utilize the vehicle manufacturing, automation and supply chain expertise of its parent company Hyundai to enable mass production at a lower cost point. That is part of the company’s plan to make urban air mobility an affordable option by launching commercial services with the S-A2 in 2028. The concept vehicle incorporates both aerospace and automotive design.
