Tesla Rival Zeekr 7X To Debut At Malaysia Autoshow

In the lead-up to the Zeekr 7X’s debut at Malaysia Autoshow 2025, pundits and fans got their first glimpse of the new model when Zeekr Malaysia recently posted teaser images on Facebook.

Prices in China start from 229,900 yuan (approx. RM135k) to 269,900 yuan (approx. RM158k), plonking it right in between rivals such as the BYD Sealion 7 and Tesla Model Y. We expect to see the 7X land in Malaysian showrooms and other location in Southeast Asia by early 2026.

Although it shares its symbol with other Zeekr models that are now available in Malaysia, such as the Zeekr X and the Zeekr 009, it actually has a very different design concept. The 7X is more conservative and employs more mature lines than its sister models.

Zeekr refers to their design methodology as “Hidden Energy.” The Zeekr Stargate headlight, which mimics the front end of a Ferrari 12Cilindri, is one distinctive feature. But instead of a blank panel, it’s an interactive LED display that can quite effectively project messages and images.

The 7X‘s cockpit employs a 13.02-inch instrument cluster, a 16-inch infotainment screen, and a Snapdragon 8295 processor. In China, other features include a CN95 air filter, three-zone climate control, and heated and ventilated seats.

The PMA2+ platform from Geely, which is also utilised by the Zeekr 007 and Smart #5, serves as the platform for the Zeekr 7X. Chinese versions include three trim levels and a 75 kWh or 100 kWh battery.

Both battery sizes can be used with a single rear motor that generates 421 horsepower and 440 Nm. While the 100 kWh model has 780 km of range and sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, the 75 kWh model has 605 km of range (CLTC) and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

The dual-motor, all-wheel drive version however can only be ordered with the 100 kW battery. Together, the two motors provide a healthy dose of 646 horsepower and 710 Nm, boasts range of 705 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

Even though Chinese EVs are still excluded from the US market thanks to huge 100% plus tariffs (that could rise to 145% soon), influential carmakers like BYD and Zeekr are strengthening their lineups with a surprisingly good-looking, hi-tech and ever-growing range of EVs. With range of up to 780km (close to 500 miles), sharp exteriors and impressive interiors that take the fight right up to Tesla, the only barrier left for Zeekr are tariffs. And when they lift, because they will lift eventually, the US car industry and the European auto industry will be in for a rude wake-up call.
