Toyota Alphard Rival Zeekr 009 Debuts In Malaysia

Are you looking for a luxury MPV but think the Lexus LM is a little too expensive and the Toyota Alphard is a little too common? Or are you searching for a fully electric MPV? The newly released Zeekr 009, which is fully electric, might just have earned a place in your driveway.

The Zeekr 009, which comes in six- and seven-seater versions, starts at RM349,800 without insurance. While still being far less expensive than the Lexus LM, this price tag gives you a number of upscale features that could be compared to those of the Toyota Alphard.

For instance, second-row passengers enjoy “first-class” Sofaro (Captain-style) seats, which come equipped with airline-style tables, a powered ottoman, sliding and reclining features, and even a 17-inch OLED screen that folds down from the ceiling.

The powertrain takes MPVs in a whole new direction. With its dual-motor setup, the Zeekr 009 produces an incredible 612 horsepower and 693 Nm. Although most people might not expect super-quick acceleration times from a luxury MPV, the 009 will sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

A 116 kWh battery powers both Zeekr 009 models, giving them a 582 km WLTP-rated range, which in the real world equates to around 500km. Within 30 minutes, the MPV will charge from 10% to 80% thanks to its 150 kW DC rapid charging capacity.

Priced on-the-road and without insurance, the Zeekr 009 seven-seater costs RM349,800, while the six-seater model will set you back RM359,800. Both an eight-year/160,000-kilometer battery warranty and a five-year/150,000-kilometer vehicle warranty are included in the price.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

To compete effectively with the industry standard that is the Toyota Alphard, an MPV must be outstanding. The Zeekr 009 has what it takes to challenge the king of the hill and maybe even knock it off, especially if buyers are looking for a fully electric, luxurious minivan, which the Alphard is not—or well not yet at least.
