Volkswagen’s New Touareg R-Line Debuts In Malaysia

The new Volkswagen Touareg R-Line has just landed in Malaysian showrooms. Wearing a price tag of RM469,990 and proudly locally assembled (CKD) in Pekan, the new model comes with a Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP).

The Touareg R-Line boasts accessories like the brand’s IQ.Light HD LED matrix headlights with an R-Line external trim, LED taillights, and an illuminated back logo comprising 38,432 micro LEDs. This 3rd generation Touareg is offered in Malaysia in five different exterior colour options including Lapiz Blue, Silicon Grey, Grenadilla Black, Oryx White, and Dolomite Silver.

The new R-Line in Malaysian-spec is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TSI engine with 340 hp and 450 Nm, while offering the brand’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system that’s paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

This SUV is fitted with Active Climate seats, an 80W amplifier-powered 13-speaker 730W Dynaudio Consequence sound system, the Innovision Cockpit, and a 4-zone climate control system. It also gets powered leather front seats, a 12.3-inch Digital Cockpit display, a 15-inch touchscreen display, a Discover Pro Max infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

It is the first Volkswagen vehicle available in Malaysia to feature the brand’s Night Vision technology, together with the Drive active safety system suite. To warn drivers of potential collisions, the Night Vision system uses an infrared sensor in the camera to identify thermal signatures from people or animals up to 130 metres ahead.

As you’d expect the new Touareg R-Line in Malaysia comes with safety features like advanced driver attention and drowsiness monitor, adaptive cruise control, front cross-traffic assistance, area view, autonomous emergency braking assist, automatic post-collision braking, lane keeping, park assistance, side assist with rear cross-traffic alert, and park assist.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

With a new exterior design, highlighted by the massive honeycomb grille, the new R-Line is sure to stand out—and not just because of its aesthetics.  From its gutsy engine to its efficient AWD system to its full-spec interior and advanced safety features, this new Touareg should give rivals—like the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Porsche Cayenne—a run for their money.
