Bridgestone Launches New EV-Dedicated Turanza Tire

  • The new Turanza EV tires are extra durable and come with a 50,000-mile warranty
  • Bridgestone has paid special attention to handling and braking performance, particularly on wet roads
  • Sustainable production techniques see the firm using rubber derived from recycled plastic bags and bottles

Finding the right tire for an electric vehicle (EV) can often seem like a daunting task. To be honest there is not a big selection of EV-dedicated tires on the market yet. And the environmentally-friendly tire options that are for sale are either too noisy or lack satisfactory grip, while high-performance tires might negatively impact the vehicle’s range.

New Turanza EV tire has 50,000-mile warranty

The world’s biggest tiremaker Bridgestone is attempting to address these concerns with its new Turanza EV Grand Touring tire, specifically designed for electric cars.

This tire is engineered with a focus on longevity, comfort, performance, and efficiency, featuring reduced rolling resistance that can extend an EV’s range. They are also backed by a healthy 50,000-mile warranty, which indicates the maker sees them as extremely durable.

With its new EV tire, Bridgestone has paid special attention to handling and braking performance, particularly on wet roads. This focus on safety is a crucial aspect to consider when choosing a tire for your EV.

Turanza EV tire performance table

The brand’s bespoke QuietTrack technology is integrated into the Turanza EV Grand Touring tires, and aims to minimize road noise. This feature is particularly significant for EVs, as the absence of engine noise can easily compound tire noise to noticeable levels. The technology leans towards a quieter, more peaceful driving experience, complementing the silent nature of electric vehicles.

The new Turanza tire is specifically dedicated to EV usage.

Sustainability is top priority for Bridgestone

Sustainable production techniques see the firm using rubber derived from recycled plastic bags and bottles, with 18% of each tire’s rubber compounds made up of recycled synthetic rubber. The Turanza EV tires are produced in facilities in Wilson, North Carolina, and Monterrey, Mexico, and are readily available at retailers nationwide, making them easily accessible for EV owners.

Currently, the Turanza EV tires are offered as all-season tires for all current Tesla models and Ford Mustang Mach-Es. Bridgestone has plans to expand this lineup to include thirteen other electric cars in the upcoming year, with prices starting from $315.99 each.

OUR THOUGHTS

The Bridgestone Turanza EV Grand Touring tires represent a significant step forward in the genre of EV-specific tires. They offer a blend of efficiency, performance, and comfort, while also embracing sustainability and a quiet ride. However, potential buyers should keep an eye on real-world reviews and tests to confirm if these tires live up to the manufacturer’s claims and are the right choice for their specific EV. From our research, we have found that the Turanza EV tires offer a longer tread life than the Michelin Pilot Sport EV and better-wet grip than Continental EcoContact 6 tires. Meanwhile, for the record, the Michelin has slightly better high-performance handling than the Turanzas, and the Continentals are marginally quieter than the Bridgestones.
