Auto Shanghai Packed Full Of Groundbreaking Technology

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new-energy vehicles, has used China’s international car show, Auto Shanghai 2025, to showcase a range of new technologies and features across multiple new models from its range of brands.

With everything from a groundbreaking new sports car concept to an estate/wagon model based on the latest Super DM hybrid powertrain, BYD’s line-up and range of appealing vehicles now looks wider than ever for global audiences.

BYD’s position as a world leader in new-energy powertrains has been proved again at Auto Shanghai, with a range of new models that demonstrate how the brand is able to engineer vehicles with either plug-in Super DM hybrid technology or a pure-electric configuration.

The all-new SEALION 6 DM-i and SEALION 6 EV are prime examples of this, bringing fresh interpretations of the mid-size SUV for the electrified era. Based respectively on BYD’s DM Hybrid architecture and the advanced e-Platform 3.0 Evo, both models reflect the brand’s cutting-edge technology and the latest interpretation of the Ocean Aesthetics design language.

Another BYD global debut at Shanghai is the Dynasty-D – a full-size concept SUV that is designed to sit with the HAN and TANG models at the summit of the brand’s line-up. The 5.3-metre-long Dynasty-D features an imposing design with the industry’s longest integrated light bar – measuring 2.4 metres – giving it an assured front-end appearance. The side profile features brushstroke-like contours, while the 23-inch wheels give the Dynasty-D a majestic presence. The rear, meanwhile, features a 3D version of Chinese-knot tail-lights, complete with phoenix-feature motifs.

Away from BYD’s own stand, the wider group’s other brands have all introduced new models and breakthrough technologies in Shanghai. Premium brand DENZA, which recently made its debut in Europe, has revealed a stunning new supercar, called the DENZA Z Concept Sports Car. The name is drawn on the Z of DENZA, which stands for ‘Zenith’ – and the Concept Sports Car has been created to deliver peak levels of performance, technology and driver enjoyment.

BYD’s luxury brand YANGWANG has its own star in Shanghai: the U8L. This full-size luxury SUV features a six-seat layout and boasts the longest wheelbase and body length among mainstream models in its class. With huge interior space and executive luxury features, the U8L meets the demand for ‘true three-row seating’, enriching the YANGWANG line-up.

BYD’s personalized off-road-focused brand, FANGCHENGBAO, has used Auto Shanghai 2025 to show off its full range of models – the BAO 5, BAO 8 and newly launched BAO 3- alongside three special-edition models and a live demonstration of BYD’s intelligent in-car drone system.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

Auto Shanghai is the biggest car show on the planet and BYD is the biggest carmaker—so the fact that we saw the brand unleashing non-stop groundbreaking tech is no surprise. Things just seem to move faster in China and we saw that on display in Shanghai. The $64,000 question: when will the US allow BYD to enter its market and repeal those 100% plus tariffs?
