BYD Finally Launches New Seal In Malaysia with 650km Range

The Seal would have to be one of the best, sleekest-looking electric vehicles to enter the market over the last two years. Meet the BYD Seal, the elegant coupe-styled sedan that’s launching in Malaysia this month. It will join the ranks of the Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin vehicles.

The Seal makes its grand debut in Malaysia in just two specs—the RWD Premium from RM179,800, and the Performance AWD at RM199,800. BYD Sime Darby Motors Malaysia, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia, is taking charge of marketing the Seal.

As a special surprise for buyers, BYD is offering free wallbox chargers and free RM800 Gentari or ChargEV charging credits to the first 800 bookings.

The entry-level model’s single rear-wheel drive electric motor generates 312ps and 360 Nm, enabling the EV to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. And with its 82 kWh Blade Battery pack, it boasts a 650 km (WLTP cycle) range although that would fall to around 580 in the real world.

In contrast, the Performance AWD variant’s dual-drive electric motor produces 530ps and 670 Nm of torque, permitting a quick 0-100 time of just 3.8 seconds. An 82 kWh Blade Battery pack, with a 580 km range (on the WLTP cycle), feeds the motor.

Both devices provide up to 150kW of charging power and require just 37 minutes to fully charge a battery from 10% to 80% SoC, allowing users to swiftly juice up and get back on the road. But when it comes to AC charging, the EVs have a 7 kW AC Type 2 charger built in, which means it will take a long time—about 15.2 hours—to fully charge the units.

As we’ve seen in previous BYD models like the Atto 3, wave waistline and waterdrop mirrors characterize the interior styling with a panoramic glass roof, and LED tail lights standing out as well. A touch of class is added by the crystal gearshift and the opulent Thaumas Black upholstery.

With its double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, the BYD SEAL is expected to deliver good handling and comfort, guaranteeing accurate control and a comfortable ride.

The 19-inch alloy wheels on the Premium and Performance AWD variants, with 235/45 R19 specs, make them stand out. With the iTAC intelligent torque adaptation control system fitted, the SEAL performs at its best under any driving conditions.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

About time. We’ve been hearing news of the upcoming Seal’s launch for over a year now, and it’s finally here. Given its great looks and competitive performance and pricing, this sleek BYD EV will no doubt generate buzz in the market and give rivals a run for their money—especially Tesla.
