China’s GAC Does Deal With Malaysian Distributor For New EVs

With the signing of a distribution and service agreement between WTC Automotif and China’s GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Company Limited (GAC Aion), GAC’s electric sub-brand is on its way to Malaysia. For the record, in Malaysia, GAC’s official distributor is currently WTC Automotif.

“This marks an exciting new phase in WTCA’s history. Through the agreement, each party will have the chance to work together and research possible business ventures to strengthen their respective Group’s position in Malaysia’s market,” said the company.

This agreement demonstrates the Group’s dedication to satisfying the varied needs of its customers by offering a greater selection of products and higher-caliber, more effective customer service. It also demonstrates the company’s commitment to EESG (economic, environmental, social, and governance) principles, which are consistent with its goal of attaining sustainable long-term commercial growth.

Models in the GAC Aion portfolio include the Aion S Plus, V Plus, and Y Plus. Recently, a camouflaged version of the fully electric Aion S compact sedan was spotted in Malaysia, suggesting that its launch here is imminent.

Sizewise, the Aion S Plus is comparable in size to a Honda Civic, and depending on the model, it has a 602 km NEDC test cycle range. With just one electric motor, 204 hp and 350 Nm, GAC claims it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

OUR THOUGHTS

Depending on the price structure that GAC can bring to Malaysia, we may be looking at one of the best-looking, most practical and longest-range EVs to come onto the market. Regarding the GAC brand itself, the GAC GS3 compact SUV is a petrol-powered vehicle and is currently the only model available in Malaysia. It is around the same size as the Perodua Ativa and has a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 114 hp and 150 Nm.
