Jaecoo Starts Bookings In Malaysia For Its J7 SUV

Hailing from the huge Chery group, the Jaecoo J7 has landed. Bookings for the J7 are now being accepted, according to a statement released by Jaecoo Malaysia after its preview event in January. Deliveries of the “premium off-road SUV” are scheduled to start in the third quarter of this year, with Malaysia being the first country in the area to receive them.

In Malaysia, the Jaecoo J7 would be available in two different configurations: the entry-level 2WD model is expected to start from RM150,000, while the flagship AWD variant is expected to cost RM160,000. Customers can select from four different exterior colours including Model Green, Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black, and Moonlight Silver.

Powering both J7 specs, in conjunction with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, is the same 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four engine, producing 197 hp and 290 Nm of torque.

Our Malaysian-spec J7 will have a number of high-end creature comfort amenities, including a large 14.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, heated and ventilated powered front seats, a Sony sound system, a 50W air-cooled wireless charging pad, a large panoramic glass roof, and an extensive list of advanced driver assistance features. The company hasn’t released a detailed specifications breakdown for either variant yet, so interested parties will have to wait a little while longer.

“We are thrilled to start accepting registrations of interest because of the public’s continuous interest in the J7 following two successful roadshows,” stated Leo Chen, president of Jaecoo Malaysia. “We think Jaecoo Malaysia is adding variety to the SUV market, particularly since the J7 is a formidable competitor in the C-segment SUV market, which appeals to Malaysian buyers.”

CARLIST THOUGHTS

According to the carmaker, the Jaecoo J7 will be available for test drives starting in May. Prospective buyers can express their interest in the interim by visiting the Jaecoo Premier Experience roadshow at 1 Utama Shopping Centre (Level LG, Highstreet) or registering online at the company’s website (click here). This is one good-looking SUV and is sure to generate strong showroom traffic.
