The Volvo EC40 in Malaysia is likewise powered by the same dual-motor configuration, which produces 408 horsepower and 670 Nm. It takes 4.7 seconds to jump from 0 to 100 km/h and has a top speed of 180 km/h. The onboard 82 kWh battery is still the same size, but its range has slightly improved from 550 km to 554 km (WLTP).

AC charging at 11 kW and DC charging at 200 kW are supported charging methods with the latter allowing the Volvo EC40 to recharge from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes. In 2024, the fully electric crossover received an update that included a larger 82 kWh battery pack and faster DC charging speeds.

In an effort to simplify its EV naming policy by displacing the “Recharge Pure Electric” suffix, Volvo has renamed the EC40 and the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric as the EX40 internationally. However, Malaysia has not yet implemented this adjustment.

The Android Automotive infotainment system powers the infotainment system however, an over-the-air software upgrade should improve it to match Volvo Car’s user experience. It’s unclear at present if the model in Malaysia would include Qualcomm’s most recent Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, which was unveiled globally earlier this year.

The EC40 costs RM288,888 and comes in one configuration. A five-year free Volvo service plan and five years of free digital services, including easy access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store, and remote functions through the Volvo Cars App, are included in the price.

Customers who reserve a Volvo EC40 between now and March 31, 2025, will additionally receive a free RM5,000 wall box charging coupon.
