A short while before it’s local debut, Stellantis Malaysia hosted a media preview of the Leapmotor C10, a mid-sized D-segment fully electric (EV) SUV intended to rival the Tesla Model Y. This model was first shown to the public in ASEAN at the Malaysia Autoshow in 2024.
In China, Leapmotor is primarily recognised for manufacturing reasonably priced electric vehicles (EVs). The brand didn’t start its aspirations for worldwide development until 2023 when Stellantis paid EUR1.5 billion for a 20% stake in Leapmotor, resulting in the establishment of Leapmotor International (LMI, which Stellantis owns 51% of). Leapmotor is currently expanding throughout Asia Pacific, including India, and Malaysia will be the first country in Southeast Asia in which the brand has been introduced, having previously only operated in Europe.
The C10’s exact specifications won’t be made public until after its formal launch in Malaysia, however Stellantis Malaysia has announced that the vehicle will only be available in single-motor configuration in local markets. The rear axle-mounted motor of the Chinese domestic market variant is expected to produce 231 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, which translates into a sprint time of less than 7.3 seconds for the jump from zero to 100 km/h.
Based on the range readout on the preview car, we are also expecting a 69.9 kWh battery pack, which should give the Leapmotor C10 approximately 420 km (WLTP) of driving range – although actual specifications will still have to wait until the official launch.
The Leapmotor C10’s interior features two floating displays that are 14.6 inches and 10 inches in size respectively. In keeping with the C10’s family-friendly tagline, the otherwise simple cabin is upholstered in brown or dark grey Oeke Tex material, which is claimed to be water-resistant and dermatologist-tested safe for children.
Highlights of the rest of the kit include heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting, full-width headlights and taillights, 20-inch wheels, and a sizable panoramic glass roof with an automatic sunshade.
Leapmotor sees itself as an electric vehicle manufacturer that creates everything internally, including the software that runs their cars and electric powertrains. According to the corporation, this strategy guarantees greater control over every facet of manufacturing and allows for more effective response to market demands while also allowing for price stability.
