Mercedes-AMG Reveals New GLC43 Coupe With 48V Hybrid In Malaysia

Mercedes-AMG has certainly been busy launching new products in Malaysia recently. In addition to unveiling the SL63 and G63 during the last week or so, the German high performance arm has also just revealed the new GLC43 Coupe.

This Coupe is the latest addition to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s lineup of new models and is priced at RM498,888 on-the-road. The AMG performance variation of the GLC model series will be locally produced (CKD) in Pekan, making it the second Mercedes-AMG model to be locally assembled after the C43.

GLC43 Coupe cabin

With more aggressive AMG design components, the GLC43 Coupe sets itself apart from the basic GLC 350e Coupe thanks to it more aggressive 21-inch AMG Y-spoke alloy wheels, quad rear exhaust tips, and a revised front end with an AMG-specific radiator grille. The athletic appearance is finished with lowered ride height and blacked-out trim elements.

The GLC43 Coupe’s engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder boasts an electronic exhaust gas turbocharger that uses technology from Formula 1. It also gets a new 48V mild hybrid (MHEV) system. For an extra 14 horsepower and 150 Nm of boost, the engine is coupled with a belt-driven starter-generator (RSG), increasing the output to 421 horsepower and 500 Nm.

While its top speed is electronically governed to 250 km/h, the GLC43 Coupe will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds when equipped with the AMG Speedshift MCT 9G gearbox. Another well-thought-out idea is its rear-biased torque distribution (39% front, 61% rear), where the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system distributes power to all four wheels.

The sporty theme carries over into the GLC43 too. Its focal point is the AMG Performance steering wheel, which has toggles for modifying driving characteristics where drivers can utilize the AMG Dynamic Select driving program to further customise the driving experience.

The MBUX infotainment system is enhanced by AMG-specific displays and features. The Burmester 3D surround sound system, AMG sports pedals, AMG floor mats, and lighted door sills with AMG insignia are additional unique features.

The Driving Assistant Package, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop-go capabilities, lane-centering assistance, a blind spot monitor, autonomous emergency braking, and Active Parking Assist with self-parking PARKTRONIC, is standard on the new GLC43 Coupe in Malaysia.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

For anyone wanting that perfect fusion between SUV and coupe, this is your baby—the GLC43 Coupe. Its sporty and aggressive in its aesthetics and performance yet boasts creature comforts of an SUV. It might not get a V8, but that 4-cylinder turbo with its 48V system certainly pumps out enough power to plant a smile on any driver’s face.
