MG EVs Destined For Imminent Launch In Malaysia

An exciting new brand will be launched soon into the Malaysian market. Owned by China’s SAIC Group, that brand is MG. The company has not disclosed the timing of its on-sale date, but we do know that SAIC Motor Malaysia Sdn Bhd will handle the brand here.

Established more than a century ago, MG has a rich history rooted in sports cars and racing. However, it has recently evolved to produce electric vehicles for the global market.

To show they mean business, a website for MG Malaysia already exists, and it highlights the company’s 100 years of motoring. The subject of which models will be introduced in this country initially is even more intriguing.

MG Cyberster

Given models that have been launched in other global markets, Mrs that seem destined for Malaysia are the MG4 hatchback, ZS EV SUV, and the Cyberster.

In Thailand, the MG4 and ZS EV are currently offered in multiple configurations, however, the Cyberster is still awaiting its worldwide release on retail shelves. As the brand’s first fully electric car, the MG4 hatchback delivers around 520 kms of range from its 77 kWh battery. The all-new Cyberster EV coupe is expected to offer the same range thanks to an identical battery pack.

Expect to hear a lot more about MG here in Malaysia over the next few months and the models in its lineup

OUR THOUGHTS

MG started off as a sports car division of Morris Cars and came to the public’s attention exactly 100 years ago with its first model—the MG 14/28, which boasted a top speed of 65 mph. Since then the brand has gone on to launch a memorable series of sports cars that have also performed well in a variety of races including the Mille Miglia. Now, in 2024, the brand has come full circle with a fistful of EVs destined for the Malaysian market.
