MG5 GT Debuts In Malaysia For Under RM100,000

MG had to launch a non-electric car sooner or later. After introducing two of its electric vehicles to the Malaysian market, MG Motor Malaysia has now previewed the non-electric sedan MG5 GT. According to the manufacturer, at debut, only one variant will be available. For now, the MG5 GT’s price is confirmed to be less than RM100,000.

With a wheelbase of 2,680 mm, the MG5 GT sedan measures 4,675 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height. It is mounted on 17-inch alloy wheels with tires measuring 215/50R17.

Standard items on the MG5 GT in Malaysia include LED headlights with auto on/off system, electrically foldable and adjustable side mirrors with turn signals, daytime running lights, LED taillights and 3rd brake lights, rear fog lights, the range-topping variant adds, powered sunroof, rear spoiler, red caliper, 17-inch Tomahawk alloy wheels. 

The MG5 gets a 1.5-litre

In terms of its powertrain, the car’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine produces 114 hp and generates 150 Nm of torque. A continuously variable gearbox (iCVT) with eight simulated speeds is the only means of transferring all power to the front wheels. All-around disc brakes with vented front and solid rear discs are standard on the MG5.

Inside, the MG5 comes equipped with synthetic leather upholstery, a 6-way adjustable driver seat, a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat, a front armrest, a 7-inch LCD digital multi-function display, a 10.25-inch colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic power windows, digital air conditioning system with PM 2.5 air filter, air vents for rear passengers, and a smart key system with push start button.

In terms of safety, the MG5 GT in Malaysia comes equipped with 3D surround view camera, hill start assist (HSA), emergency stop signal (ESS), cruise control, blind spot assist, and dual front and side airbag

Included in the price of the car is a 5-year/unlimited mileage general warranty and a 7-year/unlimited mileage warranty on the powertrain.

There will still be a lot of customers out there who do not want an EV. Just yet that is. For those buyers, this naturally aspirated car will fill that gap. It offers a stock 1.5-litre engine and lots of tech to make techies feel happy. Plus it’s priced at under RM100K which makes it especially appealing for many buyers who still want a petrol-powered car.
