Teasers are big business in the car world. They help to lift anticipation levels while informing potential buyers that a new model is coming. Now Mitsubishi is doing it.
With the slogan “Something different is coming,” Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has just released a teaser image for a new version of its Triton pickup truck. The facelifted vehicle has a white paint job that is immediately noticeable, along with some red markings across the truck bed.
Now as most teaser images are normally darkened to try to hide the new model’s details, it pays to brighten the image and see what appears. When we boosted the official image’s brightness, we noticed some familiar design elements from earlier Triton iterations. First off, it appears as if this new Triton variant will share the same front end as the already discontinued Triton Phantom Plus that debuted in Malaysia in 2022.
The Phantom Plus Edition’s bumper and red front bumper guard are also employed on this future Triton version. Meanwhile, its wheels bear a striking resemblance to those of the Phantom version, and its grille is likewise painted black with a thin chrome strip running across it. The roof-mounted spotlights and the bulky-looking grey door guards are two elements of the Triton Phantom Plus Edition that are conspicuously absent from the upcoming version.
This new Triton model may be based on the Premium model rather than the top-of-the-line Athlete, if the Triton Phantom Plus Edition is any indication. The truck is also expected to keep the 2.4-litre MIVEC Turbo Diesel VGT engine, which produces 181 hp and 430 Nm of torque. Mated to a 6-speed auto gearbox, power is sent to all four wheels through a part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) system.
According to Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, the new Triton model will shortly go on sale. Prices are still a trade secret but if we refer to the Triton’s current pricing structure in Malaysia starting from RM 86,390 for the base variant Quest up to RM 155,900 for the top-spec variant, then we can get a pretty good idea of what to expect.

The Triton is one of the best-looking, toughest trucks on the market, and the new facelift should be well received by truck fans. And if the pricing follows that of the current model, as we expect it to, then this truck will maintain its highly competitive stature in this segment.
