Less than a month after launching the Jetour Dashing in Malaysia, Jetour Malaysia has another SUV in the pipeline. According to their Facebook post, this time it’s a seven-seater SUV that belongs to the D-segment and will be called the Jetour VT9.
Due to its similar moniker to a well-known SUV in Malaysia, the VT9 earned exposure when it debuted at the Malaysia Autoshow last year. As a seven-seater SUV, it will compete with a number of popular crossovers including the Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-8, Proton X90, and possibly even the future Jaecoo J8.
In contrast to its Chinese cousins, such as the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, the car’s general design adopts a more aggressive approach. The way the single light bar wraps across the back of the vehicle resembles an Audi Q8 before the facelift.
VT9 to get a 156hp 1.5 liter turbo
Although not much about the car has been revealed so far, we do know that it will have a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that produce 156 horsepower and 230 Nm boasting front-wheel-drive that’s mated to a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The inside design appears to be similar to what was offered by Mercedes-Benz a few years ago, as demonstrated at the Malaysia Autoshow last year. The infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster are both shown on the dashboard’s two 10.25-inch screens.
The Jetour will include four USB ports, front and rear 12 V outlets, and a 50 W wireless charging pad on the centre console, so connectivity is assured.
CARLIST THOUGHTS
The VT9 certainly has the aesthetic credentials to take on the likes of Nissan, Honda and Proton. We will have to wait for the complete Malaysian launch to have a clearer idea of what to anticipate because the Jetour Facebook post’s announcement was so brief. To stay informed about the most recent developments in the automobile industry, stay tuned.
