New Gullwing GAC Aion Hyptec HT Debuts At Malaysia Autoshow

China’s GAC just revealed a gull-winged SUV that’s destined for showrooms later on this year. WTC Automotif (WTCA) unveiled the Aion Hyptec HT at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, following its teaser earlier this year, suggesting a launch in Malaysia shortly.

The BYD Sealion 7, Tesla Model Y, and the new Zeekr 7X will be rivals of the Hyptec HT, a D-segment crossover. And to make it stand out from competitors, Aion has installed gull-wing doors on the Hyptec HT, similar to those on the Mercedes SLS AMG and Tesla Model X.

The Hyper HT looks like a cross between a Mercedes and Tesla

With its slippery pebble-like appearance and coupe-like body form, the Hyptec HT looks like the offspring of a Tesla Model Y and a Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. For those not interested in gull-wing doors, a simpler version offers more traditional doors.

The interior includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central infotainment display. Its 22-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system will appeal to audiophiles, while the panoramic sunroof brightens up the cabin.

The interior is fitted with Nappa leather seats, and the second row includes foldable tables and reclining seatbacks for added luxury. For rear seat passengers, the front passenger seat can fold forward while including a leg rest to allow more space and a more relaxed seating position. The front passengers are pampered too, with retractable ottoman leg rest setup and powered recline seats.

While the Hyptec HT has already been introduced into Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, GAC is still tightlipped on when it will launch in other regions including Malaysia.

As for powertrains, the Hyptec HT in Indonesia has a single rear-mounted electric motor that generates 340 horsepower and 430 Nm, allowing it to jump from zero to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. The 83 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that powers it boasts a NEDC range of more than 600 km, although expect around 500km in the real world. It has a stated 681 km “city range” and a 520 km WLTP range in Singapore.

The Hyper HT is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2025, although local pricing is still under wraps. In Thailand, it is priced from THB1.45 million (approx. RM189k) for the Premium variant, and THB1.75 million (approx. RM228k) for the top-spec ‘Gull-wing’ model.

As a comparison, the BYD Sealion 7 and Zeekr 7X start at THB1.2 million (about RM157k) and THB1.72 million (approximately RM224k) respectively, while the Tesla Model Y starts at THB1.72 million.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The $64,000 question for the Hyper HT has to be—will its unique gullwing doors give the SUV an edge over its rivals? With its soft Nappa leather, fold-down tables, and competitive range, its luxurious interior and powertrain could also give the Aion model a little extra something in the features department.
