New Infiniti QX65 Monograph SUV Debuts At The Quail

Infiniti marks a provocative new chapter with the introduction of QX65 Monograph, a sportback SUV concept that expands the brand’s design language into the two-row, midsize segment. Revealed today at The Quail during Monterey Car Week, QX65 Monograph expresses Infiniti’s future intentions with dramatic proportions and elevated detailing.

QX65 Monograph channels design inspiration from the pioneering Infiniti FX and exemplifies the brand’s unique lines. This concept is the latest display of the design choices at the heart of Infiniti’s continued product renaissance.

“QX65 Monograph has extraordinary character, combining inspiration from our innovative FX coupe SUV with Artistry in Motion design principles to create a stylish two-row that proudly stands apart in the cluttered midsize luxury space,” said Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president for Global Design. “It’s sculpted with an underlying sense of speed and elegance, blended with very muscular and strong proportions – all headlined by the expectation-defying fastback roof silhouette.”

“QX65 Monograph is more than a concept — it’s a signal that Infiniti is moving decisively into its next era,” said Tiago Castro, vice president, Infiniti Americas. “It builds on our rich legacy of innovation, pushes our design language forward and reinforces that we’re not slowing down.”

Confidently extraordinary
The QX65 Monograph concept is identifiable by its fastback roofline, which dramatically arches over the body and plunges down toward the rear of the vehicle. This powerful accent delivers a sense of speed, a core element of Artistry in Motion, says Albaisa, and a repeated theme throughout QX65 Monograph.

This sleek and seamless upper body contrasts with the chunky lower body where the wheels are pushed to the corners of the vehicle and the fenders emphatic, giving QX65 Monograph a wide and dynamic stance.

QX65 Monograph is finished in a color-shifting satin paint called Twilight. An evolution of the Akane shade seen on QX80 Monograph, this new paint mimics the red and gold hues of the moment when twilight fades into night. Initially appearing reddish-purple, the colors soon give way to shimmering gold as the light plays upon the concept’s surface. These unexpected flashes of color are courtesy of a highly precise, multi-layer paint process, giving QX65 Monograph its rich, warm feel.

Elsewhere on the concept, Twilight contrasts beautifully with gloss black details on the roof rails and wheels, as well as artfully chosen bronze accents for the “spear” that outlines the dramatic arch of the roofline and the grille.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

This QX65 design takes Infiniti in a bold, new design direction at a time when SUV styling coming out of Europe is especially competitive and challenging. Just look at Porsche, Audi, and Volvo. Now all Infiniti has to do is finish off these designs with a competitive electrified powertrain and keep pricing down.
