New Mazda CX-5 Facelift Debuts In Malaysia

A new facelift of Mazda’s perennial CX-5 has just landed in Malaysian showrooms. Priced at a reasonable RM144,469, the Japanese C-segment SUV, comes in five different variations and is domestically produced (CKD) at the Inokom Assembly factory in Kulim, Kedah, alongside the brand’s CX-30 and CX-8 SUVs.

The Malaysian version of the facelifted CX-5 has a redesigned front bumper and oblong-shaped LED headlights. The new SUV is available in Jet Black, Snowflake White Pearl, Machine Grey, Deep Crystal Blue, and Soul Red Crystal in addition to two more exterior colour options, namely Polymetal Grey and Platinum Quartz.

Standard equipment included with the CX-5 facelift in Malaysia includes LED headlights, LED taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, auto-folding side-view mirrors, rear parking sensors, and reverse camera with rear parking sensors.

Inside, Mazda’s award-winning SUV now has standard equipment such an LED ambient lighting system, a Qi wireless charger, and wireless Apple CarPlay support for its 8-inch infotainment head unit.

The new model gets revised seats

The seat design was revised to improve seat support and comfort. Engineers enhanced seat design to reduce occupants’ body sway by optimising the structure and how the seat cushion surface flexes when sat in—or so Mazda says. The company goes on to say that the S-shaped curve formed by the CX-5 seat allows the spine to flex in reaction to vibrations sent from the pelvis, thereby minimizing sway and movement of occupant’s heads.

Standard interior equipment in the CX-5 facelift for Malaysia includes semi-digital instrument cluster with 4.6-inch colour TFT standard display, 8-inch infotainment head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, dual-zone aircon, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), wireless charger, 6-speaker audio system, and 4 USB ports.

CX-5 facelift prices start at RM144,469 and come with a 5-year/100,000km manufacturer warranty, together with a 5-year/100,000km free maintenance package.

OUR THOUGHTS

The CX5 is arguably the prettiest crossover on the market, or at least in its segment, and comes with some updated components like the bumper and headlights, making it even more desirable. It also has one of the industry’s best interior executions, while materials are top quality too. Now, with an expanded colour variation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and new revised, more ergonomically-enhanced seats, the CX-5 is one SUV that’s difficult to ignore.
