New MG Cyberster EV Debuts In Malaysia, Unveiled At KLIMS

Who says electric cars (EVs) must be boring? When SAIC Motor Malaysia unveiled the two-seater electric MG Cyberster during the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024), they were asking precisely that question.

At introduction, the MG Cyberster comes in just one spec and starts at RM319,900. It even has a pair of scissor doors, like those on a Lamborghini, to show how serious they are about inspired design!

In Malaysia, the MG Cyberster has all-wheel traction thanks to two electric motors. With their combined output of 544 horsepower and 725 Nm of torque, the dual motors can reach a top speed of 201 km/h and jump from zero to 100 km/h in less than 3.2 seconds.

The Cyberster delivers up to 444kms

A 77 kWh battery pack powers the motors, giving the EV roadster a 444 km WLTP-rated range which in the real world equates to around 360 kms. It will require up to 144 kW of DC power to charge, taking about 38 minutes to juice up from 10% to 80%. An on-board 7 kW AC charger, on the other hand, will charge at home from 10 to 100% in roughly 10.5 hours.

The Cyberster’s primary feature is undoubtedly its body style, but it also has a few distinctive design elements that will appeal to the most discerning buyers. These include the front fascia’s shark nose, the body lines that are reminiscent of the old MGB Roadster, and the rear taillights that resemble the Union Jack, which pays homage to the car’s British heritage.

With 20-inch wheels, two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, and a full range of cutting-edge driver assistance systems as standard, it is also opulently furnished. The bottom line is this—are you ready for an electric British sports car?

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The Cyberster has won numerous car awards due to its radical exterior, competitive powertrain and reasonable price tag. It is by far one of the best looking EVs on the market now, drives well and has that added ‘wow’ factor in its scissor doors—that make it look more like a Lambo than a RM319,000 Chinese EV.
