New MG HS Debuts In Malaysia From RM129,000

MG’s long-awaited HS crossover was first previewed in Malaysia in August this year, and now SAIC Motor Malaysia has revealed the HS’s official pricing. The Standard and Lux versions of the C-segment SUV model will retail for RM129,900 and RM145,900, respectively.

To celebrate the launch and the brand’s centenary, SAIC Motor Malaysia will also be offering a limited-time introductory RM5,000 rebate, lowering the price to RM124,900 and RM140,900 for the Standard and Lux variants.

Some of the car’s highlights include LED headlights and Daytime Running Lights, LED tail lights, twin exhaust outlets, a roof-mounted spoiler, and only on the Lux version, a set of 18-inch diamond-cut wheels, red brake calipers, and upgraded ventilated front brakes.

As its name suggests, the Lux version of the MG HS has all the extras, such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 64-color ambient lighting system, a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, sports seats, and the MG Pilot’s sophisticated driver assistance functions. However, the 360-degree surround view monitor, power-adjustable front seats, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine that powers both versions sends 162 horsepower and 250 Nm to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Performance-wise, the HS can reach a top speed of 190 km/h and accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in a modest 9.6 seconds.

The MG HS has a black inside with soft-touch leather and four exterior colour options: Black Pearl, Arctic White, Camden Grey, and Dynamic Red. A seven-year unlimited mileage powertrain warranty and a five-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty are included in the price.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The HS certainly comes with some name value, especially given that MG is celebrating its 100th anniversary. It’s a good looker, has some fancy interior appointments — as you’d expect — and lands in showrooms with a price tag that’s bound to worry some rivals.
