New MG7 Fastback Debuts At KLIMS With 261-hp Turbo

Currently being held in the Malaysian capital, the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024 became the venue for SAIC Motor Malaysia to unveil its eye-catching MG7 fastback sedan.

Boasting a unique side profile, the MG7 exudes sportiness through its coupe-like silhouette. Large exhaust outlets, frameless doors, distinctive LED taillights, and red brake calipers all add to the drama. And this MG also has some performance figures that impress even discerning drivers.

The MG7 fastback

A 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine develops 188 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that drives the front wheels.

The flagship packs 261-hp turbo

For those who need more herbs, the flagship 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four packs 261 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque, and powers the fronts through a nine-speed automated transmission.

Inside, the MG7’s flat-bottom steering wheel perches in front of a digital instrument cluster that incorporates a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display which is positioned right above the a/c buttons. The car also gets a 360-degree camera, 19-inch alloys, a Bose sound system, sports seats, a panoramic sunroof, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The MG7’s driver assistance aids include lane departure warning with mitigation, adaptive cruise control with stop-go, blind spot monitoring, lane change assistance, and front collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, and of course six airbags come as standard.

Finally, the MG7 has a true feather in its cap. It holds a Guinness World Record for the largest altitude change for a petrol-powered vehicle of 5,978.17 meters of climbing.

For the record, the stunning-looking MG Cyberster EV finally went on sale in Malaysia in October.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

That fastback styling is eye-catching and really does stand out in a crowd. At the moment, the MG7 is sold in China and Vietnam and is only offered in left-hand drive configuration. A RHD model is expected to go on sale in Malaysia sometime next year.
