New Morgan Flagship Is In The Pipeline Boasting Classic Looks

Even though these official photos reveal a camouflaged prototype Morgan’s new flagship model, we are glad to see that the 115-year old car company’s all-new two-door still boasts the brand’s well-known classic lines reminiscent of the Plus Six.

Although the Malvern-based manufacturer claims that the Plus Six, which is retiring this year with the limited-edition Pinnacle, won’t be directly replaced by the new model, there are still many similarities between the two vehicles (aside from appearance).

First off, the flagship will be built on the CXV platform, which is an evolution of the company’s bonded aluminium chassis. We expect that the car’s frame will continue to be made of wood, which is a hallmark of Morgans, though this has not been verified.

The New Flagship Should Employ A BMW 3.0L Turbo

The car will also employ a variety of new technical features and engineering revisions throughout, all of which contribute to improved dynamic performance and driving enjoyment, or so the company says.

Like the Plus Six, the flagship is expected to be powered by BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine which generates 335 hp and 500 Nm of torque through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission to the rear wheels.

Despite the design being distinctly Morgan, the carmaker claims that it has attempted to convey “a more contemporary aesthetic and an aerodynamically informed proportion” with the new car. Up the front end, the new Morgan features the traditional horseshoe grille paired with twin circular lights that look bigger than the Plus Six’s, and more like those of the exclusive Midsummer speedster.

Both the sculpted wheelarches that flow towards those prominent rear haunches and the cab-back profile with the extended bonnet are still present. While some less noticeable characteristics, like the front wing vent, have been eliminated, others, like the three wipers on a flat windscreen, remain.

This test vehicle seen in these pics also has a hard-top, which we assume is detachable, and a soft-top canvas hood, which is probably going to be available on the new vehicle when it comes out in the spring. Like the Plus Six, it has a twin-exit exhaust system at the back, along with rounded, vintage rear lights.

Although Morgan has not disclosed the price of the next flagship, it is likely that the new model will cost around £95,000 (in the UK), like the Plus Six Pinnacle did.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

At just under six figures in either Europe or the U.S., the new Morgan is expected to sell in small numbers to a very niche clientele. With the biggest markets for Morgan being France, Germany and the U.S., the carmaker produces around 800 units per year with an average price in 2025 expected to be around $95,000 in the U.S.
