New Porsche Taycan Makes Big Entrance, Debuts At Sepang Circuit Event

Last week, at the “Porsche World Roadshow Malaysia 2024” inside the Sepang International Circuit, the German carmaker revealed its latest Taycan facelift.

The pricing of the new Taycan in Malaysia ranges from RM 575,000 to RM 1,600,000, with the top-of-the-range Taycan Turbo GT sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds.

In Malaysia, the new Taycan EV is available in two styles — a Sedan or a Cross Turismo. Bookings for all versions are now being accepted, and they will be available at Porsche Centres around the country beginning in July 2024.

So what’s new? Back in February, the Taycan received a mid-cycle update for global markets which included new technologies, a revised chassis and suspension system, better performance, and an improved design.

The updated EV’s bodywork features new front and rear design components that give it more road presence. With their distinctive four-point graphics and HD-Matrix Design, the newly designed LED headlights improve both visibility and appearance. A new 3D Porsche logo has also been integrated into the rear light bar while the brand has expanded its range of customisable colours.

The all-new Taycan’s interior features a redesigned head unit, instrument cluster, and optional passenger display, with enhanced Apple CarPlay connectivity and an in-car video system. The Sport Chrono and Performance Battery Plus packages come with a unique push-to-pass button, and the EV now has a standard mode switch mounted on the steering wheel.

The enhanced standard equipment includes wireless charging, power-folding side mirrors, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats.

Adaptable air suspension underpins the new Taycan, which do away with conventional steel springs. Porsche Active Ride roll stabilisation, on the other hand, is an option available to buyers of all-wheel-drive versions, allowing the vehicle to lean into curves in the same way as motorcyclists.

To enhance economy and handling, the EV’s curb weight was also lowered by up to 15 kg while a new improved regenerative braking system, which can now absorb up to 400 kW of kinetic energy, has been added. This increases driving range and aids in enhancing braking economy. Driving range has been increased significantly, by 35%, to 678 km, depending on the body style and drivetrain. Porsche added that while using 800-volt DC charging stations, the new models recharge more quickly.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

Porsche said it all in their PR spiel—basically everything that EV proponents want to hear. The most recent iterations of every Taycan offer “more power, more range, accelerate quicker and charge faster with greater stability.” Boom! And with the Taycan and Taycan Turbo S faster from 0-100 than their predecessors by 0.6 and 0.4 respectively, well, the circle is complete. Porsche has a winner here.
