New Proton eMAS7 Debuts In Malaysia For RM110K

Following months of teaser images and speculation on the launch date, Proton has finally released the Proton eMAS7 in its home nation of Malaysia. The eMAS7 Prime and Proton eMAS7 Premium are the two specs that are credited as the brand’s first fully electric (EV) car and they boast a starting price of RM109,800.

With dimensions of 4,615 mm x 1,901 mm x1,670 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750mm, the eMAS7 is much bigger than the majority of its rivals in the same price range, including the BYD Atto 3.

eMAS7 employs Universal Design philosophy

Employing a minimalist design, the eMAS7 incorporates a sleek but futuristic exterior with its sharp up-slanting headlights and full-width taillight at the rear thanks to its “Universal Design” philosophy. The vertical trim and sculpted front bumper help give the car some extra attitude.

Standard exterior equipment on the eMAS7 Prime includes LED headlights and taillights, follow-me home light, automatic headlights, flush door handles, roof rails, electronic adjustable and heated wing mirrors , 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Giti tyres.

The interior of the eMAS7 is as minimalistic as its exterior, with a sizable central 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Flyme Auto that incorporates a live map of nationwide charging stations. Meanwhile, the driver gets a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster in the shape of a letter box.

Standard interior equipment on the eMAS7 Prime includes a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster, leather upholstery, a six-way power adjustable driver seat, wireless charging pad, a six-speaker sound system, and automatic air conditioning with a N95 filter.

A front-mounted 12-in-1 electric motor, which Proton claims is the most efficient drive unit on the market, powers the eMAS7. With 218 horsepower and 320 Nm, this powertrain can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds for the Prime variant and takes 7.1 seconds for the Premium variant. The top speed of both specs is 175 km/h.

Geely’s exclusive Aegis short blade battery is fitted to both Proton eMAS7 models with a 49.52 kWh battery pack powering the Prime version which has a 345 km WLTP rating. Both 80 kW DC charging and 11 kW AC charging are supported.

With a larger 60.22 kWh battery pack, the Premium model’s range is increased to 410 km (WLTP). Although it allows 100 kW of DC charging, it still provides the same 11 kW of AC charging. Using DC charging, both versions take just 20 minutes to charge from 30 to 80%.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The eMAS7 has been a long time coming as Proton played around with various teasers. But now that it’s here, with those sharp looks, decent interior and a powertrain that delivers competitive range plus a price tag that won’t break the bank, well Proton might just be onto a winner here.
