The long-awaited Suzuki Jimny 5-door debuted in Indonesia last year and now it has finally landed on Malaysian soil for RM199,950. Only one version will be available.
In terms of dimensions, the Jimny 5-door is 505 mm longer than the 3-door model, with dimensions of 3,965 mm x 1,645 x 1,720. Additionally, the wheelbase has been increased by 340 mm to 2,590 mm.
Standard exterior equipment on the Jimny 5-door includes an LED projector headlamps with washer, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, electrical adjustable and foldable side mirrors, squared-off bumpers in scratch-resistant material, unpainted wheel ‘over fenders,’ 15-inch alloy rims, and tailgate-mounted full-sized spare tyre.
The 3-door Jimny’s drivetrain is also used in Malaysia’s 5-door model and features a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 102hp and 130 Nm of torque.
While it won’t break any speed records, the 5-door will accelerate, or should we say nonchalantly proceed from zero to 100 km/h in around 17 seconds on its way to a speed-governed top speed of 140 km/h.
Meanwhile, inside the Jimny employs standard equipment including fabric upholstery, automatic air-conditioning, a 9-inch infotainment head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50:50 split folding rear seat, Bluetooth connection and a reverse camera.
In terms of basic safety features the 5-door incorporates cruise control, hill-hold control, brake assist function, twin front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, and electronic stability program (ESP) in addition to offering customers a 3-year/100,000 km manufacturer warranty as part of its pricing.
CARLIST THOUGHTS
Well, it’s about time the Jimny 5-door arrived on Malaysian shores. It’s been just on six years since the 4th generation Jimny debuted in Japan, so it has certainly taken time to get here. Anyway, it may not be quick by any stretch of the imagination but at that price, and with those chunky looks, and with those heavy-duty off-road specs, the 5-door should sell well.
