New Toyota Camry XV80 Debuts In Malaysia But Only In Hybrid Version

Boasting some sharp new lines, the ninth-generation Camry looks ready to impress. And that’s exactly what it’s been doing at KLIMS 2024 with its new exterior and revised powertrain and cockpit. The most obvious modification is at the front, where the split headlamps and hammerhead-style lights give it a Ferrari Purosangue-like look, albeit at a significantly lower cost.

Of course, fans of the Toyota Crown Sport will recall a body shape closely resembling that very same Ferrari—except for all intense and purposes, the Toyota came out before the Ferrari.

In this day and age, where touchscreens control everything, the dashboard has been overhauled with a simpler design than before, and there are a row of physical buttons for easy climate control adjustments.

To ensure you get to your meetings or family affairs in style, the Camry also has leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.

As far as the powertrain goes however, there is only one hybrid version available. Sending drive to the front wheels, the 2.5-litre Dynamic Force Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine produces 188 horsepower and 221 Nm and is mated to an e-CVT transmission and an electric motor that produces 136 horsepower (100 kW) and 208 Nm, for a total output of 230 horsepower.

Without insurance, the Camry 2.5 HEV costs RM248,800 on the road. Included in the sticker price is a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, in addition to an eight-year hybrid electric warranty covering the hybrid battery, inverter, and power management control unit. This warranty is extendable up to 10 years.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

With its new look and updated powertrain and cockpit, the revised Camry will knock horns with the likes of Honda Accord and Mazda6. And given its competitive pricing and packaging we think it will do pretty well.
