New Zeekr 7X Is Bound For Malaysia Market

One of the highlights at Auto Shanghai 2025 this week was the all-new Zeekr 7X which is destined to debut in Malaysian and other Southeast Asian markets later this year.

When it arrives, the 7X mid-size SUV will compete with the likes of the BYD Sealion 7 and Tesla’s hugely popular Model Y. As far a dimensions go, the 7X is on a par with the BYD Sealion 7, but is marginally bigger than the Tesla Model Y.

According to the carmaker, the 7X has a “Hidden Energy” design style and boasts a sleek, mature if not conservative silhouette, which sets it apart from its SUV siblings, the Zeekr 9X and Zeekr X. The SUV’s single front light bar mimics that of the front end of a Ferrari 12Cilindri while the rear end appears to borrow styling hints from a Porsche Cayenne.

Since the Malaysian variant’s specifications are still under wraps, let’s have a quick peek at the Chinese model’s specs to get an idea of what to expect.

Inside, a huge 16-inch infotainment screen and a 13.02-inch digital instrument cluster welcome the driver. The Snapdragon 8295 chip that powers it will make navigating the system more seamless for drivers.

The vehicle’s powertrain offers some impressive numbers. The single motor RWD version of both battery options produce 421 horsepower and 440 Nm. The range ratings for the 75 kWh RWD and 100 kWh RWD variants are 605 km (CLTC) and 780 km (CLTC), respectively, although expect numbers like 500km and 650km in the real world.

Additionally, there is a dual motor all-wheel drive version with 646 horsepower and 710 Nm that will only be available with the 100 kWh battery option. With such a powertrain the car can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The range ratings for the 75 kWh RWD and 100 kWh RWD variants are 605 km (CLTC) and 780 km (CLTC), respectively. The larger 100 kWh RWD requires a little more time (5.8) to complete the same sprint as the 75 kWh RWD, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds.

A LiDAR sensor is positioned above the front windscreen to offer some of the best self-drive capability so far. It features a highly intelligent ADAS system called “Haohan Intelligent Driving 2.0” that is powered by two Nvidia Orin X chips (508 TOPS) that are said to deliver certain levels of self-driving capability.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The Zeekr 7X is a conservative looking SUV that follows popular current EV styling of body-wide lift bars and flush nose designs. And as always it over-exaggerates its range. It is priced from 229,900 yuan (about RM 140k) to 269,900 yuan (about RM 160k). In China, that costs more than the BYD Sealion 7, but it’s marginally less expensive than the Tesla Model Y.
