Special Edition Proton X50 R3 Launched In Malaysia

Proton has just unveiled the new X50 R3 20th Anniversary Edition for the Malaysian market. This special edition X50 is based on the top-spec 1.5 TGDi Flagship variant and is limited to just 200 units. On the road, the new Proton X50 R3 Edition costs RM 125,300.

This Anniversary Edition features a satin black vinyl wrap along with yellow accents and several R3-branded items. The bespoke vehicle is being developed by Proton’s motorsport and performance division, or R3, for “Race. Rally. Research.” The Proton’s best-selling SUV, the R3, has yellow highlights all over its bottom and a satin black vinyl wrap.

It also comes with several R3 bespoke detailing including an R3 aero kit, R3 bonnet stripe, specially developed 18-inch alloy wheels, R3 embroidery on the headrest of front seats, and R3 carpet mats.

The R3 limited edition nameplate on the boot lid and interior console, along with the R3 insignia on the front grille, further highlight the uniqueness of this special edition X50. A stylish rear roof spoiler and window tint are also included with the kit.

The Proton’s 1.5-litre inline-3 TGDI engine generates 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, with power being transferred to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

“As the company celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2023, it is a timely opportunity for Proton to acknowledge some of our other milestones. R3 has been synonymous with Proton’s success in the motorsports arena as well as developing models with outstanding performance for our customers who are driving enthusiasts,” said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar.

“Today, the R3 brand remains popular amongst Proton fans who have shown their support by purchasing R3 branded merchandise and specially formulated lubricants. We are grateful for their enthusiasm and want to reward them with this accessories package that was developed specially for Proton’s most popular SUV model,” said Abdullah.

OUR THOUGHTS

This Proton looks like to real deal and is perfectly set up to wear a 20th-anniversary badge. With its special aero kit, black vinyl wrap, and paint job, this special R3 certainly stands out. And with a gutsy 177hp engine and 7-speed DCT, super sporty handling is guaranteed. Of course, it goes without saying that the price is reasonable as well.
