Teaser Image Of New Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Revealed In Malaysia

At last, the long-awaited 5-door Jimny has arrived. Naza Eastern Motors, Suzuki’s official distributor in Malaysia, has just released a teaser image of the Suzuki Jimny five-door on social media. In the teaser, a standard three-door Jimny is shown being sliced in half, with the slogan “squeezed”—”extra 5pace anyone?” Notice the ‘5’ filling in for the ‘s’ in space.

The company’s official website does not yet appear to have any information about the five-door Jimny, despite the teaser post claiming that bookings for the car are now available via a link to its website.

The regular three-door Jimny was effectively expanded into a five-door version, which had its global debut in India last year. This is the first time that this variant of the Jimny is available.

Jimny 5-door gets extra 505 mm in length

The Jimny’s overall length of 3,985 mm makes it 505 mm longer than its three-door counterpart, as predicted. Additionally, its wheelbase has been extended by 340 mm, reaching 2,590 mm. The Jimny’s interior body design remains the same, despite its added length and doors.

Under the bonnet is the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that powers the three-door, with 102 horsepower and 130 Nm. The four-speed automatic and the five-speed manual gearbox are also unchanged.

With the exception of the extra second-row seats, the Jimny five-door’s interior is virtually identical to that of the three-door. Special back seats and interior trim have also been added to the rear compartment.

There are now two Jimny versions available in Malaysia. This comprises the rare Jimny Rhino Edition, which retails for RM174,900, and the standard three-door Jimny, which retails for RM158,900. The same 1.5-litre engine powers both versions, and it’s mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

This is the Jimny that enthusiasts have been waiting for. With 5-doors, the extra space and rear access opens a lot more doors, if you’ll pardon the pun, while the interior is more spacious but almost identical to the 3-door in terms of design. Although not yet announced, we can expect the 5-door’s price to land somewhere between the 3-door and the Rhino version.
