Toyota GR Supra Track Edition Arrives In Malaysia From RM698,000

Up until now, Toyota GR’s (Gazoo Racing) high performance division has offered a selection of bespoke models for heavy-duty fans.  A new “Track Edition” version of the Toyota GR Supra is now currently offered in Malaysia, thanks to UMW Toyota. This unique edition, which costs RM698,000, adds a number of performance-enhancing visual upgrades and chassis modifications to make the already aggressive coupe even more sporty.

For the past six years or so, Toyota’s Gazoo Racing flagship model has been in showrooms and  available for purchase. Over the years however, it has enjoyed numerous improvements and special editions. This time though, Toyota GR has upgraded the fifth-generation Supra to increase its handling prowess on both twisting roads and racetracks.

The new model comes with significant revisions. First, the GR Supra Track Edition’s bodywork includes aero flaps around the wheel arches and new front underlip tyre spats. These improvements, in addition to the obvious carbon fibre ducktail spoiler, enhance the car’s aerodynamic performance.

The car now comes with new matt black 19-inch light alloy wheels which are encased in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. These are rubber that are exclusive to the GR Supra Track Edition and have a ZR rating up to over 240 km/h.

To enhance the cabin’s aesthetic appeal, the GR Supra Track Edition receives a special interior kit boasting GR symbols embroidered on the headrests of the leather and Alcantara-upholstered seats. The interior is accented by red seat belts, while manual iterations feature a red ring around the leather-wrapped gear shifter.

The same 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine that many enthusiasts adore continues to power the GR Supra Track Edition. The twin-scroll turbocharged six-pot produces 388 horsepower and 500 Nm. It can be paired with either an eight-speed torque converter gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox.

Exclusive to the new spec is a new “Track Edition” control employing electronically controlled limited slip differential (LSD) for improved stability. The electric power steering system has also been revised with an exclusive Track Edition control map for improved responsiveness and feel.

New front control arms, firmer stabilizer bars with aluminum brackets, negative camber adjustments, and strengthened rubber bushings are among the other improvements that give the car a more track-focused appearance and improved driving performance.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

Many people may find the RM689,000 price tag excessive, but since the A90-generation Toyota GR Supra is getting close to the end of its lifecycle, this might be the only special edition model available here for those who want to own a unique piece of Toyota’s performance heritage.
