New Detour X70 Plus Debuts At Malaysia Autoshow 2024

Chery has a new SUV on show. At the Malaysia Autoshow in 2024, the Jetour X70 Plus made its debut in the country. Order books for this stylish SUV have just opened for the Chinese model with two variants—the 7-seater Prime and the 7-seater Signature. Expect the new model to land in showrooms for around RM120,300.

We are sure that most of our readers have heard of this brand before but just in case you have not. Jetour is a subsidiary of Chery, alongside Jaecoo. In terms of positioning, the Jetour X70 Plus is expected to compete with vehicles such as the Mazda CX-8 and Proton X90 although its dimensions are more akin to those of the seven-seater Honda CR-V, which isn’t offered in Malaysia.

The Jetour X70 in Malaysia has a powered tailgate with memory function, LED tail lamps, height-adjustable auto headlamps and a roof rack. Buyers can look forward to a 62-inch panoramic sunroof on the Signature model.

As for its powertrain, the X70 gets the same engine as the Chery Omoda—a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine packing 156 horsepower and 230 Nm powers the front wheels while a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DCT) channels power to the tarmac.

There are seven seats in the Jetour X70 Plus in Malaysia, with the second and third rows being slid and folded respectively. This car comes with standard inside features like leather upholstery, a 50 W wireless charging pad, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a digital instrument cluster. Additionally, the front passenger seat has a 4-way manual adjustment and a 6-way power driver’s seat.

The Jetour X70 Plus in Malaysia comes with active safety technologies like blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, door open warning, and front collision mitigation system. A tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360° HD video system are also present.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

For the price, this stylish X70 will no doubt put pressure on the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-8. And given the fact that it’s backed by Chery, one of China’s biggest auto groups, we expect it to land in the country with a significant promotional scheme backing it up. Watch out for increased traffic to showrooms in your area.
