Suzuki Fronx To Debut In Malaysia In Q4 2025

‘Fronx’ is a strange name to be sure. It’s what happens when you marry ‘frontier’ with ‘crossover’ in a uniquely Japanese setting. For short, that spells ‘fronx.’ And Naza Eastern Motors, the Japanese brand’s distributor in Malaysia, announced at the recent introduction of the Suzuki Swift Sport Final Edition that the Fronx SUV will debut there during the fourth quarter of this year.

The Fronx, a small crossover measuring 3,995 mm x 1,765 mm x 1,550 mm, and with a 2,520 mm wheelbase, was recently teased for the Malay market. This puts it in the B-Segment of SUVs, where it faces off against crossovers like the popular Honda WR-V and the Perodua Ativa.

Also known as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Tiasor in India, the Fronx recently had its regional debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Most notable on its exterior are the SUV’s split-headlight design’s thin LED daytime running lights (DRLs).

The vehicle has full-width taillights on the back, and the rugged bumper design gives it an adventurous appearance. The 16-inch wheels that are standard on the automobile in Indonesia complete that appearance.

A nine-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is installed inside the vehicle. A heads-up display (HUD), a wireless charger, auto air conditioning, and a set of rear air conditioning blowers are some of the other stand-out features.

Suzuki’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder mild-hybrid and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder normally aspirated (NA) powertrain are the two options offered in Indonesia—which give other markets a good idea of what’s to come.

In Indonesia, the 1.5-liter NA engine powers the front wheels through an engine generating 105 horsepower and 138 Nm and boasting a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. With a 12-volt lithium-ion battery and built-in starting generator, the 1.5-liter mild hybrid generates 101 horsepower and 135 Nm and comes with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Six airbags are standard on the vehicle, and higher-end models get the brand’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) package. This covers functions including rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, automatic braking (AEB), and adaptive cruise control (ACC). For increased convenience and visibility, higher trims also come equipped with a 360-degree camera and High Beam Assist.

The pricing range for the locally assembled (CKD) model of the car in Indonesia is IDR259 million to IDR322 million, or roughly RM67k to RM83k. The Malaysian spec is expected to come from the ASEAN region when it launches, as the automaker intends to introduce the Fronx from its Indonesian manufacturing to nearby countries.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The Fronx is a tough-looking small SUV and well-proportioned, so it should compete adequately with the likes of Honda’s WR-V.  To be competitive in the tough B-segment SUV market, the Fronx will probably need to match competitors with prices ranging from RM80,000 to RM100,000.
